Casio or Casio Computer Company in full is a Japanese electronics company. The company, founded in 1946, was originally best known for calculators, watches, computers, PDAs, synthesizers and cash registers. For quite some time now, Casio has also been making keyboards and for some years also good digital pianos.
Casio is an electronics manufacturer and started under the name Kashio Seishanso. The company was taken over from the father in 1946 by four brothers from the Kashio family. Casio's philosophy is to create products that save work and improve the quality of life. Casio was the first manufacturer in the world to produce large numbers of compact electronic calculators. It was invented by Toshio Kashio in 1957. That same year, the company name was made more English.
In 1986, one of the first sampling keyboards (Sampletone SK-1) was made by Casio. This instrument had little musical potential due to the low quality sampling that was possible, but nevertheless gained some cult status. It was revolutionary for the music world. The SK-1 was one of the first affordable keyboards that could record and play sounds from a small keyboard.
Nowadays Casio makes beautiful digital pianos that are very competitively priced, especially in terms of price/quality. Even Casio's top lines (AP-700, GP-300, GP-400 and GP-500) were also made in collaboration with C. Bechstein.
